= Set 2: advanced beginner German conversation with some cultural information
= Set 3: advanced beginner German intermediate German separable verbs present tense
= Set 4: advanced beginner German intermediate German separable verbs perfect tense
= Set 5: German verbs taking sein in the perfect tense
With structured speaking prompts, students are able to develop confidence in their German speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of German grammar too.
There are 50 questions with 50 suggested responses in each set, so 500 cards in total. The questions range in complexity and content. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. There are several games and activities that my students enjoy, and I’ve described them for you to try with yours.
The questions are aimed at advanced beginner German to intermediate German learners, though my advanced German students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time.

I like to share essential beginner German vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their German learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
The 5 fruits in this free sampler are:
lemon : oranges : pumpkin : raspberry : star fruit
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - German flag or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 10 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

495 beginner German words & phrases with matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner German learners.
There are five sets of 99 beginner German words and phrases, with matching English cards, 198 cards in each set, 990 cards in total. There is an accompanying 18-page Reference, Recall & Write workbook with an alphabetical German-English vocabulary list. Students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
The vocabulary groups across the four sets are as follows:
Begrüßungen : Zahlen 0-100 : Tage der Woche : Monate des Jahres : Jahreszeiten : Uhrzeit (o’clock & half past) : Adjektive : deutsche Verben : in der Stadt : Schulfächer : Tiere : Verbindungswörter : Fragewörter : Obst und Gemüse : Wetter : Körper : Farben : meine Familie : Alltagswörter : Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : Fragen und Antworten
The Reference, Recall & Write books each have 18 pages. They include an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in***German***.
There are three written recall challenges:
= Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Three: the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their German vocabulary.
There is definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out the cards, and printing / photocopying the workbooks. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the cards will remain in excellent conditional for years.

ideal for Primary French, KS2 French and beginner KS3 French students. The breakfast items are within a sentence, such as***Je prends… Je mange…, Je bois…,*** using either indefinite or partitive article, singular or plural - I use these as question prompts to get students talking.
The breakfast items are:
boiled eggs : muesli : orange juice : yoghurt
I don’t necessarily have all the breakfast items in my learning plan - I generally add additional vocabulary to my classroom decor / flashcards sets to maximize students’ exposure to language.
There are two design formats to choose from - either the French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Print on card stock and / or laminate if you can, as they are easier to manipulate as flashcards, display much more effectively as decor, and remain in excellent condition for years.

French Europe 2 multiple-choice quizzes
Ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their French language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their French vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
French Europe Posters
These French Europe flashcards / posters are always really popular with my students and great for the beginning of a new school year to decorate your learning environment with specific learning goals. They’re really useful for creating and instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe in French. There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in French showing European countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography.
It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom display posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Europe Map or plain.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in Spanish class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe through classroom decor, really making the most of learning display. There are 134 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in Spanish showing European countries, capital cities and flags, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. At the same time, they are developing their Spanish language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their Spanish vocabulary.
We regularly ask questions during Talk Time, such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Barcelona es la capital de España? - I’ve found this to be a really effective way of promoting speaking in Spanish class, as students tend to find this a really challenging skill, particularly at the beginning of their Spanish learning program.
There are several countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. There are also two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as República Francesa - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Francia to display.
Laminate the posters if you can - they display more effectively, and will remain in excellent condition for years, especially if you use them as flashcards to introduce Europe in Spanish class. There are two formats to choose from - Europe map, or plain without frame to keep prep costs to a minimum.

Lively whole-group multi-skill language learning games, ideal for Primary German / KS2 German and KS3 KS4 German students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in German, and for pronunciation practice too. Students often find half past in German quite challenging, similarly fünf vor halb… and fünf nach halb… to denote***25 minutes past and 25 minutes to***, and they definitely benefit from frequent and regular targeted practice.
= Set 1: focus on o’clock, half past, quarter to & quarter past the hour
= Set 2: focus on 5 & 10 past and 5 & 10 to the hour
= Set 3: focus on 20 & 25 past and 20 & 25 to the hour
There are 8 clock faces per page, and I cut the cards in sets of 2, so four larger cards per page. This means that students can see two clock faces and times per game card, which really helps to consolidate learning. It’s also a lot less prep than cutting out eight individual cards, though I do actually have a set like this, which we use as a larger-size dominoes game.
I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
Each set has two games, each with a different challenge:
= Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Ich habe… Wer hat…?
= Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, Hast du…? Ja, (Nein) ich habe…

21 countries where Spanish is an official language. Each word wall card features the country, capital city and national flag, in Spanish. The word wall provides an instant introduction to the Spanish-speaking world, and is also great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too.
I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the word wall as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important - they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish learning. I’ve also found that there can be several countries that students don’t actually know, or have never heard of, so the word wall is really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of both the Spanish-speaking and wider world.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format. The flag and text are big enough for students to be able to see and read from various locations in the classroom. There are two design formats to choose from - Spanish flag, or plain, which keeps prep costs to a minimum.
